Video Hits Edition!

Harkening back to a time when music videos ruled the musical airwaves, and iconic Canadian shows and networks like Video Hits, Good Rockin’ Tonight and MuchMusic started and became must see TV for teens and 20 somethings across the land.

Canada produced some amazing, video friendly bands and we intend to showcase them along with their iconic videos, classic clips, VJs and pure nostalgia from the 80’s. Giant (you might say Big Shiny?) pop/new wave hits, hidden gems, and maybe a twist or two with Canadian and even Winnipeg connections. A multi-media presentation that is sure to fill the dance floor and have the crowd singing along.

Depeche Modem Eh? is…

Hector Luna (Guitar)
A metalhead at heart, Hector decided to slum it with the New Wavers this year — and somehow makes it look effortless. Armed with an enviable collection of Gibson guitars, he brings serious tone and precision to every riff, even when the band insists on playing synth-pop instead of shred. He’s fully embraced the fun (and fashion) of the 80s sound, adding just enough crunch to keep things dangerous. By day, he’s a security engineer at Conquest Planning Inc. — by night, he’s proof that a metal guitarist can love Platinum Blonde as much as Metallica.

Warren Massey (Drums, Keys, Vocals)
Warren is the band’s resident sonic tinkerer and IT guy—literally. By day he’s Director of IT Applications at Winpak; by night he’s buried in synth patches and drum triggers chasing the perfect 80s sound. He also builds boutique guitar pedals under the name Artisanal Effects. Equal parts drummer, programmer, and perfectionist, Warren once imported a European guitar pick just to nail a specific U2 tone—because of course he did.

Robert Mills (Bass, Vocals)
A lifelong guitarist drafted into bass duty as a favour to his brother-in-law Warren, Rob now admits he’s having too much fun to quit. A Beatles fanatic and vinyl collector (27 copies of The White Album and counting), he also happens to work at Bell MTS in Advanced Technical Support. When he’s not hunting the perfect bass strings, you’ll find him at Folk Fest or Rainbow Trout, guitar in hand and stories to tell.

Derek Robertson (Vocals)
A powerhouse tenor with encyclopedic 80s and CanCon knowledge, Derek’s been performing for over 30 years everywhere from coffee houses to cruise ships. If you want Rush, Duran Duran, or some obscure Outfield deep cut from a long-lost YouTube clip—he’s your guy. A professional singer, part-time plumber, and full-time dad, Derek tolerates the band’s tech talk because he loves the music (and secretly enjoys watching the IT geeks dance).
